ADVOCACY SPECIALIST OPENING:
Disability Rights Montana (DRM), the federally mandated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agency for the State of Montana, seeks to hire an Advocacy Specialist to advance the human, civil, and legal rights for people with disabilities.
Under the supervision of an attorney, this position will focus on protecting the rights of people with disabilities who live in institutions, congregate care facilities, and group homes. Preference is that the applicant has experience working specifically with Montana’s DPHHS programs and services.
This position solves complex problems experienced by persons with disabilities through investigation, research, communication, and negotiation to avoid or resolve legal actions. Basic computer skills and excellent writing skills are required. When legal actions are commenced, this position will provide substantial assistance to the supervising attorney so knowledge of legal or administrative processes is a plus.
Five years of qualifying experience required; or a bachelor’s degree and three years of qualifying experience.
Position is located in Helena, Montana. Some travel is required. Salary is commensurate with experience. A generous benefit package includes paid time off, 403(b) retirement plan, health, life, dental, vision, and long term care insurance.
